Michael A. V. Mirzai, MD

I am Michael A. V. Mirzai, M.D. and my specialty is Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. I grew up in Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii. Kids are not raised in a ‘bubble’. There have been friends, neighbors, teachers, sports coaches, and others that all played an integral role in helping me grow and develop early in life.

Therefore, it has been important to me to try to help others likewise. I speak to you as a fellow parent, having just raised my third child into the magic world of ‘adulthood’ –
age 18 years old! Of course, the learning in life goes onward from there, but you and I have something important in COMMON – for I too have experienced the ‘roller coaster ride – the ups and downs’ of parenting!

It can be daunting and even scary to try new things. If you give this a chance you will see we have many similarities! I encourage you to consider a consultation with the Kahala Clinic for Children & Family.

Michael Jordan (you know the one – 5 times MVP, the basketball star) says:
“I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying.”

– Michael Jordan

Here is a little more about my education and training:
Grade School/Jr. High: St. Anthony’s, Wailuku, HI.
High School: H.P. Baldwin H.S., Wailuku, HI.
College: University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu, HI.
Medical School: Meharry Medical College, Nashville, TN.
Residency in General Psychiatry: Texas A&M Scott & White Memorial Hospital, Temple, TX.
Fellowship in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry: Texas A&M Scott & White Memorial Hospital, Temple, TX.

I have been in practice 18 years post graduation from fellowship in 2003. I feel honored and humbled have worked as Civilian Psychiatrist for Department of Defense for a total of 9 years, at both Darnall Army Medical Center in Killeen, TX and Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI. My maternal Grandfather passed away in August 2011 and my family and I moved to North Dakota to support my maternal Grandmother who was alone at the time. My Grandmother passed in 2019, so we decided to return home to Hawaii in 2021. I have worked in private sector for the last 9 years at both CHI/St.
Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND and Sanford Health Hospital in Bismarck, ND.

A little more about me: Eva Marie is my wife of 23 years. My 3 kids are multicultural: Filipino, Chinese, Scandanavian, Ukranian, and Persian. I enjoy the outdoors; love the beach and the sun. My wife and I have run several marathons over the years including Honolulu Marathon! My wife and I once did a mini-triathlon in Temple, TX. We like to try new ‘adventures’. I also love music and spending time with my family. My goal is to try to stay young at heart as long as possible! Keeping life simple and focusing on the important things is what makes me ‘tick’. If you are reading this for any reason, I hope we can meet
to see if there is something we can do to improve your child’s and/or family’s life!

Sincerely,
Mike Mirzai, M.D.
