Airway Scans

An airway scan, also known as rhinomanometry, is utilized as a diagnostic tool to assess nasal airflow and resistance, identifying obstructions caused by structural problems such as a deviated septum or mucosal/soft tissue inflammation caused by turbinate hypertrophy. This non-invasive procedure involves using a mask and a rhinomanometer to measure airflow and pressure within the nasal passages.

Addressing nasal obstructions through treatments like decongestants, nasal corticosteroids, or dental or surgical interventions can significantly improve sleep quality and respiratory function. Enhanced nasal airflow and sleep have been linked to reductions in anxiety, depression, ADHD symptoms and more thereby supporting overall mental well-being. For individuals undergoing therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), resolving underlying nasal issues can lead to more significant improvements in mood and cognitive function.

By integrating rhinomanometry into their comprehensive mental health services, The Kāhala Clinic offers a holistic approach to care, addressing both physiological and psychological factors that contribute to mental health conditions. Their multidisciplinary strategy aims to optimize health outcomes and enhance the quality of life for all patients.
