About Me:

Dr. Aleta Monakhov earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Chaminade University of Honolulu. She brings over 13 years of experience as an oncology nurse, where she witnessed the profound impact of stress and trauma on the body. This led her to specialize in psychiatric mental health, with a focus on the mind–body connection. Areas of expertise include trauma, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, ADHD, and other complex psychiatric conditions across the lifespan. She works with children, adolescents, adults, and families to support mental health and resilience.

Approach to Therapy:

Dr. Monakhov’s approach is warm, collaborative, and integrative. She values building a strong therapeutic relationship where patients feel safe, respected, and empowered. Patients can expect personalized care that blends Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Structural Family Therapy (SFT), and mindfulness-based strategies, tailored to meet each individual’s needs and goals. She is passionate about fostering resilience, improving emotional regulation, and addressing both physical and emotional well-being. Dr. Monakhov believes in meeting patients where they are, honoring their unique journey, and partnering with them to achieve meaningful growth and healing.

What motivates you to do this work?

Dr. Monakhov is motivated by the opportunity to be a resource for people facing trauma, anxiety, and life’s hardships. She is inspired by helping individuals build resilience, find hope, and create full and meaningful lives despite the challenges they encounter. Supporting people as they discover their inner strength and grow through adversity is at the core of why she chose this path.

Beyond the Clinic

Outside of her clinical work, Dr. Monakhov enjoys reading, dancing, traveling to Disneyland, spending time with her family, and meditation. She also loves playing Minecraft with her daughter and finding fun ways to stay connected. In addition to her psychiatric practice, she teaches mindfulness classes for cancer survivors at The Queen’s Medical Center, reflecting her passion for both healing and community support.
